It’s a new week and I feel like things are finally looking up! As a result of additional damage found by the body shop my insurance company finally decided to total out my car. That is a HUGE weight lifted off my shoulders. Now we just have to wait for them to send us a check for what they determine the actual cash value of the car to be, wait for the GAP insurance to pay off the rest of the loan, and then figure out what we want to get to replace it. Right now I’m really torn between another Nissan Murano and a Toyota Prius. I know, I know those are like opposite ends of the spectrum but that’s where I am. I’ve made the usual pros and cons list for both of them and I am still undecided. I would LOVE the MPG of the Prius but it doesn’t have heated seats, is really a bit too small for our big dogs, and would probably be too small once we have a child. Add to that it’s small so I think the Murano would be safer – something I’m definitely thinking about after the accident. The Murano costs a bit more than the Prius and won’t get near the MPG but it drives so nice, has heated seats, and plenty of room for the dogs and kids.
So I’d love to hear what you all think – should I go with the Murano

or the Prius?

Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

I know this is totally out of the question, but have you checked on hybrid SUVs? There is the Toyota Highlander hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, etc… I just don’t know how much more they cost.
I’d go for the Murano…. In fact, they said you’d have to drive your car at least 100,000 miles to break even on how much it costs! Plus, the battery is another thing to worry about, on how to dispose.

I agree..the Murano gets my vote. Especially looking/planning ahead – and you’re right, Kinley and Stein wouldn’t fit in the prius (very well).
And dude..warm buns…can’t beat them!!!

i’m having the same debate on my next car…honda cr-v (larger, kid-/dog-friendly) or honda fit (small, sassy, awesome gas mileage)? i seem to change my mind daily…but today i’m in the cr-v camp, so i’d vote for the murano!

My vote is for the Murano! I’m all about you getting something big enough for the doggies and of course future babies (nudge nudge). LOL

If it weren’t for your big babies, Kinley and Stein , I’d be all for the Prius. But having grown up with a shepherd mix, even having him in the back of my parent’s big car was a hassle. You need to go with the Murano. (Especially if you’re adding skin-kids any time soon!)
My little Honda Fit is perfect for the pugs, the kid (Jeff’s daughter) and Jeff, but if we ever wanted to add to our crazy zoo of a family, I’m gonna have to upgrade. I have the Honda Element in my sights.

Amber – I would say Prius but since you need space, go with a hybrid SUV! I’m glad things are back on track. I did love your butt warmers
I’m sure a hybrid SUV would have them too.
