First off, thanks for all the feedback about my car buying decision! We are still waiting on the insurance companies to finish up with their end of things so no new car yet.
It’s funny because this is the subject I had in mind to blog about the day I had my accident and with all the crazy things that have gone on since then it kept getting pushed back. And now it seems only appropriate that I discuss food as favors on the Monday before the biggest eating day of the year – Thanksgiving!! Food based favors are both useful – everyone loves food – and cost effective. I’m sure you’ve all attended a wedding where the couple gave out Hershey’s Kisses as favors. I’d like to expand on that idea just a bit.
I’ve mentioned before that one of the keys to a really special day is personalization. So, take the Kiss idea and make it your own! Do you and your fiance have a favorite candy bar? Give them in ”fun size” as favors. Can’t choose just one favorite? Set up the ever popular candy bar for guests to take home a variety of sweet treats. This works especially well if your wedding falls just after a holiday, ahem…clearance candy! Check out this great blog entry by A Delightful Day to see some of the great Candy Buffets they have set up. Beautiful and practical!
Another cute personal touch involving food based favors we have seen is food that plays off the couple’s name. A wedding we did last October gave out York Peppermint patties since the Groom’s last name was York! Another wedding had a groom with the initials MM – what better favor for that wedding than personalized M&Ms? And if your name doesn’t bring candy to mind, you can always create a custom candy bar wrapper for Hershey’s bars and re-wrap them as a DIY project.
As an alternative to candy, cookies also make an excellent food favor. Especially if they are “grandma’s secret recipie” or from a locally owned bakery. Nashville brides might want to consider our hometown favorite – Christie Cookies. Alternately they could simply choose the bride and grooms favorite. Recently John went on a business trip and brought home some Cloud Nine cookies from the Kalico Kitchen in Holdenville, Oklahoma and they are for sure my new favorite. Even with shipping, these are affordable and will absolutely make a lasting impression on your guests! Here’s a picture I snapped of the last one before I devoured it, LOL!

YUM. Now that I’ve made you all hungry, enjoy your Thanksgiving feast!!
