Busy, Busy, Busy!

December 18th, 2008 · 13 Comments

December always seems to be a month that is filled to the brim with activity and this year is no exception!  I’m currently running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to wrap up loose ends at work and at home before I leave for Chicago on Saturday.  But before I start packing, I wanted to share some photos of a family I hold near and dear to my heart.

I should probably give you some background info so you will understand why this is one of my favorite families in the whole wide world.  Those of you who know me know that I have a habit of bringing home strays.  Stray pugs that is.  And maybe stray isn’t the right word, pending homeless maybe?  Nonetheless, in October 2006 I had been married to John a mere 2.5 months when I answered the call of a pug listed on Craigslist.  The ad said something to the effect of “Purebred Pug, unaltered, minor sight problem, yours for $50.”  Well I went and got him and what I found was a flea infested, totally blind sack of bones that I dubbed Stevie Wonder.  That night John and I spent hours bathing and de-fleaing this poor sweet boy but we both knew we couldn’t keep him.  The plan had always been that I would turn him over to rescue once I had broken him out, but there were some complications with that plan and I ended up stuck with Stevie.  Who, while being a very very sweet boy smelled like a septic tank and cried like a real live baby at night.

Enter Lynette.  After Stevie had been with us for about two weeks my good friend Chasity invited me to go scrapbook shopping with some other friends of hers, including Lynette whom I had never met.  During the course of the day I had explained my precarious dog situation to the ladies and jokingly asked them if they would like a very sweet, very blind pug named Stevie.  We had a great time shopping and then went back to my house when we were finished to divvy up the goods we’d purchased to split.  Over a bottle of Prima flowers Lynette fell for Stevie Wonder and subsequently saved my marriage.

I love Lynette and her girls like family and it was such an honor to be able to photograph them.  Here are some of my favorites, but if you’d like to see more you are welcome to check out the slideshow.

P.S. Bonus points to the person who can name the Christmas movie that title of this post is a quote from!

Amber! I just can hardly put into words what these photos mean to me and the girls. You captured our very spirit in these shots. And, let me say…. a more fun afternoon has never been had. Thank you my sweet, dear friend. By the way, for anyone reading, Stevie – the once 14 lb sack of bones – is now a fat, happy, spoiled little fella and he is where he will spend the rest of his days – curled up in a lap in front of a fire -which is just about all he is good for.

oh… and Busy Busy Busy – that is the head elf in Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer – the one who fired Hermie the dental elf. This gave me one of my favorite songs from a Christmas movie – where Hermie belts out: “You can’t fire me… I quit”. lolol…..

    I love you Amber!

Amber, these pictures are so great! I have to agree with everyone else that they seemed to show their personality perfectly. I don’t know them and yet I feel like they’d be some very fun girls to hang out with :)

Merry Christmas to you and John!

Hey, I know who Lynette is! She’s been at a few crops that I’ve attended in the past and we’ve shared some laughs. VERY nice photos!!

As for the “busy, busy, busy” I thought I recall that from the Frosty the Snowman cartoon. I can totally hear the character saying it, but I could be totally wrong about where I heard it :)

oh oh Tracy – yes – the man (school principal?) who Frosty gets his hat from?

I only remember that line from a song that we had on a record as a kid, “It’s The Day Before The Night Before Christmas”. I doubt it’s from that, though. He says, “It’s the day before the night before Christmas, and I’m BUSY BUSY BUSY being good!”

Anyone else remember that song besides me??
