Miscellaneous

I’m kinda all over the place today so I’m just gonna go with it and give you a complete stream of consciousness look in my head.

  • I want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who voted (or tried to vote) for my Sir-Mix-a-Lot Parody in the Open Source Photo Contest.  I came in 2nd and won free web hosting for a year from Showit Sites so I am really stoked about that.
  • Some of you may have noticed that I’ve developed a bad case of watermark ADD.  I started out with this one here: Watermark #1 then moved to this version Watermark #2  and just this week moved on to this version Watermark #3  There is also a valid argument for not using a watermark at all because it does detract attention away from the photo, but I prefer to leave something on the photo so that if the photo ends up somewhere else, we are still easily identifiable as the photographers.  So if you wouldn’t mind, please vote for your favorite and why in the comments section.  On Monday I’ll randomly choose someone to send a little gift to from the voters :)
  • If there are any photographers out there reading my blog, I wanted to let you know about a promo Becker is doing for the [b] school.  I’ve been a member since October and while there were some kinks to be worked out at the beginning it’s shaping up to be a great community of photographers who are very willing to help each other out.  Anyway, go here to check out the promo – you get free advice and a chance to win $1,000 just for entering your e-mail address.
  • And for fun, yet another Facebook tag.  I actually first saw it on Emilie Ahern’s blog, (I just love her) and she put a new twist on it.  Here are the rules ala Emilie:

1 -BAND NAME Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random article”or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 -ALBUM TITLE Go to “Random quotations”or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 -COVER ART Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

(I’m altering this one and instead of grabbing someone else’s photo, I’m going to choose the 3rd photo inside my personal photo file labeled “Misc”.)

4 – Use Photoshop or similar software to put it all together.

5 – Create a mix CD you feel reflects your band.
(Okay, I’m altering this one too…because I’m lazy.  I’m not sure it reflects my band, but I’m taking the first 13 shuffled tracks off my iTunes. )

Here’s what I came up with:

Track List

1. Take On Me – a-Ha

2. Ridiculous Thoughts – The Cranberries

3. Save Room – John Legend

4. Oh Yeah – Big Tymers

5. Better Off Alone – Alice DJ

6. Carrion – Fiona Apple

7. Sleep to Dream Her – Dave Matthews Band

8. Jockey Full of Burbon – Tom Waits

9. Hit ‘Em Up Style – Blu Cantrell

10. Warning Sign – Cold Play

11. Tomorrow Tomorrow – Elliot Smith

12. Bleecker Street – Simon & Garfunkle

13. Stickshifts and Safety Belts – Cake

Thanks for the challenge Emilie!  Fun stuff! :)

    LOVE the title!
    Great track list as well.

LOL How funny. I still laugh at some of the some of the songs that come on when I shuffe my iPod.

I vote for the second watermark. Mostly b/c if you’re afraid it takes away from the picture, that one is technically *not* on the picture. My 2nd choice is the 3rd one.

I love the first watermark, maybe a little smaller. I think it doesn’t detract as much from the photo, but still brands your image.

    Love the album challenge thing!

I have to vote for watermark number three. It just grabbed me the most, and just made me feel most like I was looking at one of *your* photos. Yes, it detracts slightly from the photo, but not in a bad way. :-)

I like number 2 the most – followed closely by number 3.

I love #2 without the www in front of lotus blossom:)

definitely do the first one but a bit smaller. and maybe just a little more transparent. =)

I like the second watermark. Gets your website address out there, but doesn’t obstruct the photo.

my fave is #2. looks very professional, marks your pics, and doesn’t detract from the photo.

  • 13 Karla // Mar 3, 2009 at 11:58 am

    I vote for number three.
