Every spring, just about the time it starts to get warm outside, I get the itch to photograph something different. I am thankful to have some wonderful friends in the industry who humor these crazy ideas of mine. Last year it was Imelda Marcos who inspired me. This year it was Lizzie Borden If you aren’t familiar with her story, take a minute to read her wiki. I’m really enjoying taking female villains and turning them into shoot inspiration. I’ve already started brainstorming for the next one! HUGE thanks to everyone who made this shoot possible:

Let’s start with the normal stuff The location provided to us by Kennedy Occasions was just amazing!!

And now for the fun stuff For those of you who didn’t read the wiki, here is a quick summary. Lizzie Borden was an eccentric young woman whose overbearing father and stepmother made it so that her only friends were the pigeons that lived in the barn on her father’s property. One day she went to the barn to find her father had killed the pigeons. She allegedly snapped and murdered her father and stepmother with a hatchet. You might remember the jump rope rhyme:

Lizzie Borden took an axe

And gave her father forty whacks,

When she saw what she had done,

She gave her mother forty-one.

Nashville Ladies Bridal Shoot Part 2

For part 2 of our shoot, we wanted to take the edge up a notch. The lovely Tristin was happy to help us and the make up by Sarah King really polished off the look.

Cathy’s Bridal Shower – Nashville, TN

Waaaay back at the beginning of August I had the pleasure of photographing my friend Cathy’s bridal shower. Cathy and I have been friends since middle school and have been through a lot together. Middle school awkward days, transitioning into high school, and even senior prom – where Cathy was kind enough to share her date with me!! LOL! Being able to capture memories like these for her is so special to me. I can hardly wait for the wedding in October!

Amber’s Post-Bridal Session

About a month ago John and I embarked upon an early morning adventure around the streets of downtown Nashville with Amber. Despite being sleep deprived and pregnant (a little detail we didn’t know about at the time!), she was the perfect model willing to try anything – even a dip in the fountain!

I have to confess, we knew ahead of time that Amber would be a joy to photograph; she is a pro at all things wedding! Amber not only owns her own design company, but she is also part of the team at A Delightful Day Event Planning. Her design company, Sweet Life Designs, offers everything imaginable for the bride-to-be. From monograms and invitations, to menus and table numbers Amber can do it all! She is also a great resource for the small business owner. Our very own logo is a testament to Amber’s great eye for design.

Melanie’s Post-Bridal Shoot

A few months ago I had the pleasure of photographing one of my oldest and best friends Melanie. Like so many of us, she had her bridal portraits done pre-wedding but at the time they were taken she was stressed out about the wedding and just generally not feeling at her best. She decided to have a post-bridal shoot before taking her dress in for preservation so that she could not only get some awesome pics, but also another day of wear out of the dress! We had a ton of fun exploring the city for different locations and ended up with some very unique portrait spots (can you say Waffle House??).
